Capability Modelling

Capability modelling helps identify and define an organisation’s current and future capability needs, in line with its overall strategy. By developing a clear understanding of these capability requirements, key modelling activities can be undertaken in preparing a solid platform for technology acquisition.

VEGA’s approach to capability modelling

Based on more than five years’ work with large-scale organisations such as the UK MOD and the European Space Agency, VEGA has the experience and knowledge to provide independent capability modelling advice and support to help organisations define their capability requirements. This includes:

• Business analysis – understanding the gap between the business now and the business as the leadership wishes it to be
• Operational context – identifying specific, non-functional constraints that limit or bound an acquisition
• Concept studies – exploring alternative approaches or solutions and their impact on the capability requirement
• Capability trade-off – comparing different possible acquisition scenarios, according to budget, timescale, availability, risk, security, etc
• User requirements – identifying and documenting specific functional requirements, i.e. exactly what capability is needed
• System requirements – documenting how the system will meet specific user requirements and the relevant acceptance criteria
