Integrated Logistic Support
What is Integrated Logistic Support?
Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) is a disciplined approach to
managing the supportability of a project. One of its aims is to
optimise Whole Life Costs (WLC) by influencing the approach to
supportability in the early stages of a project in order to
determine the best follow-on support solution; the end result is an
efficient supportable system at optimum cost.
For UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) projects, ILS provides the
necessary framework and assurance by mandating the use of
appropriate Defence Standards (Def Stan), and, in particular, the
overarching ILS Def Stan 00-60, soon to be replaced by Def Stan
00-600.
The main components of ILS include Logistic Support Analysis
(LSA), Reliability & Maintainability (R&M), Supply Support
Procedures (SSP) and Obsolescence & Disposal, though additional
’ILS Elements’ make up the overall framework.

Tailoring of the ILS solution is a particular skill that VEGA
brings to the table, and our consultants have in-depth experience
of applying tailored support solutions, ranging from a full LSA
Record (LSAR) based programme, to a more simplified, scaled down
approach for Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) IT projects where an
IT Service Management (ITSM) approach has been utilised. Core
building blocks such as the ILS Strategy/Plan and the Support
Solution Envelope (SSE) are given full visibility.
Additionally, VEGA has valuable experience with the production
of Contractor Logistic Support (CLS) solutions where prolonged
negotiation with both the client and the contractor has helped to
produce an efficient and cost-effective CLS contract.
