What is a CESG (CHECK) IT Health Check?

The Government's Communications Electronics Security Group (CESG) provides IT Health Checks to UK Government and Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) agencies for protectively marked systems. The CHECK scheme was developed due to the increase in demand for such IT Health Checks. As a consequence, a partnership between CESG and private industry was formed, enabling commercial organisations to conduct IT Health Checks on government and CNI systems processing data that is protectively marked, up to and including CONFIDENTIAL.

As a “Green Light” CHECK service provider, VEGA works from customer requirements through to the formulation of a specific test plan and the execution of work in a manner that is competent and sufficient, from both the technical and security standards perspectives.

VEGA’s technical competence and security experience remove the requirement to rely upon a generic ‘one solution fits all’ methodology. Addtionally, VEGA’s experience has shown that consideration of the threats to a particular environment and any other specific customer requirements (perhaps arising from legislation or adherence to a particular quality or security standard), will result in a far more effective and realistic manual test. The primary result is a set of improvement suggestions that will be vastly more practical and relevant than those arising from an automated process (regardless of whether it is manually driven).

VEGA can perform work under CESG’s CHECK terms and conditions, and consultants are available to work on Government protectively marked systems up to CONFIDENTIAL. VEGA can also provide DV cleared CHECK team leaders.
