Securing Cyberspace
The 2011 UK Cyber
Security Strategy provides increased focus on greater
public-private sector co-operation to educate and protect the UK
against with the growing and ever-evolving cyber threats, and
details how the
UK "will tackle cyber threats to promote economic growth
and to protect our nation’s security and our way of
life."
With UK consumers being Europe's biggest online spenders,
according to the Centre for Retail
Research – spending over £50bn online each
year, and 90% of high street transactions done using credit
and debit cards (and the underlying wired and wireless
technology) – the UK Cyber
Security Strategy's objective is to enable citizens, business
and government to enjoy "the full benefits of a safe, secure and
resilient cyber space". In achieving this, the strategy also aims
to "address the risks, reduce benefits to criminals and terrorists,
and seize opportunities in cyber space to enhance the UK's overall
security and resilience."
