Information Communications and Technology (ICT) Strategy

The Need for ICT Strategy

All modern organisations experience an abundance of choice in ICT vendors, services and solutions. At the same time, their internal business needs and external drivers are constantly evolving. A well structured, solid ICT strategy provides the clear and unambiguous guidance to executives and managers on the choices they need to take to ensure their organisation can deliver current and future services in a cost-effective, secure and integrated fashion.

VEGA’s approach to ICT Strategy

VEGA prides itself on delivering our clients with a focussed, evidence-based strategy which clearly sets out the future direction in an achievable fashion and includes a step-by-step action plan to realise it. Our inclusive and collaborative approach to strategy development promotes stakeholder buy-in, which is key to the success of any strategy.

We have a long history of driving benefits throughout client organisations, by demonstrating options, exposing costs and benefits, and providing key insights to senior stakeholders, allowing them to understand and implement the best option.

We regularly work with some of the most exacting clients in Government, Defence and Public Sector including Police and NHS. Based on our experience, we have developed a well-defined, modular and low-impact approach to developing and delivering strategies. Within each module we offer options on the depth and range of activities undertaken. This offers you the opportunity to tailor the engagement to suit your organisation and both your timescales and your budget.

The key stages of our approach are:

Baseline Review

Through a baseline review, we engage with our clients to understand the current technical, commercial and management provision of ICT in their organisation. This provides the strategy with up-to-date evidence on where the organisation is, and enabling the client to answer the question of ‘where are we now?’.

Requirements Discovery

Requirements discovery is designed to extract the key current and future requirements of an organisation, across a range of stakeholders. These can be specified in terms of capability, organisation, OPEX / CAPEX and opportunity for savings, and overall priority. The requirements will be used to drive both the strategy options selection, and the ultimate action plan.

Options Development and Analysis

Using the outputs of the first two stages, combined with our market knowledge and other techniques, VEGA will define and analyse the options to meet your needs, along with rankings of how they meet them. The options are presented for review and refinement by senior stakeholders to select and ratify the preferred option for development.

Strategy Development and Report

With the agreement of senior stakeholders on the preferred option for each of the ‘threads’ to be included in the strategy, VEGA will develop a full evidence-strategic framework, describing the framework within which all current and future ICT initiatives will be undertaken. After a final review by senior stakeholders, the strategy will be delivered for publication in the client’s preferred formats.

Action Plan

VEGA has a well deserved reputation as a practical, can-do company. With this in mind, we work with senior, operational and supplier stakeholders to understand the priorities, interdependencies and critical success factors. We provide clients with an action plan, setting out when and how current and future ICT initiatives can be undertaken. This enables them to fast track the implementation of the strategy, and achieve the benefits as quickly as possible.
