VEGA delivers Enterprise Architecture services to support
Future Core Network
11 August 2008 – VEGA, a Finmeccanica company, has won a
contract to provide Enterprise Architecture services to the UK
Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) Future Core Network (FCN)
programme.
The FCN programme team is responsible for managing the
procurement options and technological requirements to ensure that
FCN successfully replaces the capability of the four separate
communication networks – DFTS, DII, DHFCS and Skynet 5 – as their
respective contracts draw close to renewal between 2012 and 2020.
The new six-month project builds upon an initial study VEGA won in
March 2007, to identify and review the risks and issues surrounding
the proposed acquisition process and the future technological
requirement.
VEGA will apply its Enterprise Architecture services and
Architectural Framework Modelling expertise to enable the FCN IPT
to make informed decisions as how best to deliver continuity of
service without any loss of capability, as the transformation
programme is rolled out.
The project's technical boundary scope was developed in
conjunction with the Systems Engineering and Integration Group
(SEIG), through the use of the Integration Services Support
Environment (ISSE) drawing upon architecture models held in the
Ministry of Defence Architecture Repository (MODAR).
VEGA Defence Business Development Director, Peter Armstrong,
said: "We are delighted to be supporting the MOD in the reshaping
of its future network, and the wider C4ISTAR strategy. Winning this
work further highlights VEGA’s expertise and leadership in
Enterprise Architecture and Architectural Framework Modelling."
