VEGA and Dell collaborate on digital forensics solution
8 July 2009 – VEGA Consulting Services Ltd (VEGA), a
Finmeccanica company, and Dell, one of the world’s leading
technology providers, are collaborating to provide a digital forensics solution to all UK Police
forces.
To support UK Police forensic laboratories, VEGA and
Dell have come together to develop a scalable and secure
solution, comprising commercial off the shelf (COTS) equipment,
that helps meet the increasingly demanding digital forensics
challenge of each Police force. This includes simplifying the
entire process, improving the efficiency of sharing and
administering data across analyst teams, and supporting strict
evidence-handling guidelines.
The new digital forensics solution
enables teams of analysts to concurrently and securely investigate
ever increasing amounts of suspect data within reduced timescales.
This is made possible by their ability to ingest, index, analyse
and archive data via multiple workstations, across networked file
servers. To ensure the integrity of the information, the solution
runs forensic tools as secure ring-fenced
sessions on analyst workstations, protecting them from the effects
of malicious code.
The digital forensics solution is
being launched by
Dell and VEGA at ACPO-APA International Policing Exhibition and
Summer Conference from 7-9 July in Manchester.
VEGA General Manager, Paul MacGregor, said: “We are excited to
be working alongside Dell in an effort to improve the efficiency
and capability of the UK’s law enforcement agencies. VEGA has a
proven track record of devising secure systems for some of the most
sensitive areas of UK Government and its armed forces. This
experience has enabled us to help Dell create a digital forensics solution that complies with HMG
Security Policy Framework, as well as JSP440. Furthermore, VEGA has
ensured that the security measures encoded in the solution do not
interfere with the system performance or user operations.”
