VEGA extends Architectural Modelling relationship with UK MOD

8 June 2010 – VEGA Consulting Services Ltd (VEGA), a Finmeccanica company, has been awarded a contract extension with the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide independent architectural modelling subject matter expertise to the Systems Engineering and Integration Group (SEIG).

SEIG is the body within Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) with overall responsibility for implementing a Systems of Systems Approach (SOSA) to support the realisation of enhanced capability, by ensuring interoperability of independently procured systems, and driving commonality and re-use across the Defence Enterprise.

A key tenet of SOSA is the implementation of an architectural approach which provides a shared context – understanding how the elements of the Defence Enterprise contribute to capability, and their interfaces, interactions and evolution over time.

Under the new one-year contract, VEGA consultants will continue to support the definition, management and regulation of the architectural approach across the MOD. Supporting the development and maintenance of MoDAF-compliant Environmental Architectures and ensuring coherence with Domain Architectures. VEGA will provide advice and guidance to enable DE&S Programme Boards and Delivery Teams realise the benefits of SOSA in support of capability acquisition and deployment.

Since 2008, VEGA has worked in partnership with SEIG staff supporting the client’s robust assurance processes and through-life capability management objectives. Activities have included delivering a set of coherent requirements through effective engagement with stakeholders; designing the SOS architecture approach; and producing the supporting procedures, guidelines and Governance regime.

VEGA Managing Director, Paul MacGregor, said: “We are delighted to be able to continue providing independent architectural modelling support to SEIG. For the past two years, VEGA’s expertise has helped deliver several key benefits to the client, including being a single and consistent point of reference to help facilitate interoperability across projects and programmes; identifying integration issues at the earliest possible stage; aligning projects with strategic objectives for interoperability; and providing through-life capability planning and requirements management support. We therefore look forward to furthering this relationship through this contract extension.”
