London Conference on Cyberspace
1-2 November 2011 – Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre,
London, UK
The London Conference on Cyberspace was
hosted by the Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth
Affairs, William Hague MP, and was designed to launch a more
focused and inclusive dialogue between key cyberspace stakeholders
around the world including from government, industry and civil
society. This is part of an aim to develop a better collective
understanding of how to protect and preserve the far-reaching
opportunities that cyberspace development offers everyone.
The intention is that the ideas and
proposals which emerge from the conference will develop into the
'London Agenda' – a plan to help us
realise the full potential of cyberspace. The conference focused on
five themes:
- Economic growth and
development
- Social benefits
- Cyber crime
- Safe and reliable
access
- International
security
As one of the world's leading cyber
security partners, Finmeccanica
Cyber Solutions – of which VEGA is a key
member – was selected as an exhibitor at the
London Conference on Cyberspace. Finmeccanica is a highly
experienced supplier of cyber security services, working to secure
information, networks and systems at the heart of national
security, critical infrastructure and businesses large and
small.
Finmeccanica is currently responsible for, amongst many other
examples, the majority of UK military communication encryption, the
physical security of the Pentagon, the resilience of Italian
civilian Air Traffic Control, and the security and resilience of
the Italian Inland Revenue's networks, systems and data, and is a
preferred partner to the Postal Police, in Italy in charge of cyber
crime. The company is working with the emergency services in the
UK, the USA and Italy to improve interoperability, deliver real
value and front line effectiveness in the fight against terrorism
and organised crime.
Through this experience, Finmeccanica has the capacity to be a
trusted partner to the UK Government to educate UK PLC on the
threats posed to cyberspace, and support the UK's objective of
becoming a leading nation in the cyber economy.
