UK Cyber Security Strategy
The 2011 UK Cyber
Security Strategy provides a significant update to the 2009
strategy, with an increased focus on greater public-private
sector co-operation to educate and protect the UK against with the
growing and ever-evolving cyber threats.
Building upon the updated
UK National Security Strategy, published in October
2010 which highlighted Cyber
Security as one of the Tier 1 security risks facing the
UK – the 2011 UK Cyber Security
Strategy details how the UK "will tackle cyber threats to
promote economic growth and to protect our nation’s security and
our way of life," explains Cabinet Office Minister, Francis
Maude.
With more than £50bn spent online by UK
consumers annually, and 90% of high street transactions done
using credit and debit cards (and the underlying wired
and wireless technology), the UK Cyber
Security Strategy's objective is to enable citizens, business
and government to enjoy "the full benefits of a safe, secure and
resilient cyber space". In doing so, the strategy also aims to
"address the risks, reduce benefits to criminals and terrorists,
and seize opportunities in cyber space to enhance the UK's overall
security and resilience."
