Civil Government

The UK Government's Comprehensive Spending
Review, published in October 2010, outlined the austerity measures
and tough economic strategies that would impact every area of the
public sector over the next few years.
In response, the Efficiency and Reform Group,
and the Government ICT Strategy released in March 2011, set out
measures to increase public sector efficiency by reducing waste and
addressing project failure.
At the same time as addressing the budget
deficit, these measures are intended to deliver changes that make public services efficient,
effective and fit for the modern age; generate greater transparency and accountability;
give more power and responsibility to citizens; and enable
sustainable, long-term improvements in services.
These plans are further complemented by
facilitating devolved responsibility and shared services through
cloud computing. The accompanying data centre, network, software
and asset consolidation however, increases the potential impact of
service disruption and failure through accident, vandalism or
deliberate cyber attack.
