In light of Defence Secretary, Liam Fox's, statement that "the MOD must become as effective and efficient as possible," the Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) sets out major restructuring measures to balance defence plans, commitments and resources, in order to deliver a coherent defence capability and sustainable defence programme for the future. This includes large-scale reductions in personnel, decommissioning of ships, planes, helicopters and tanks, and rationalisation of the Armed Forces' estates.
