SKYNET 5
VEGA has supported the SKYNET 5
Integrated Project Team ensure the success of this critical UK
Defence communications infrastructure programme.
Challenge
SKYNET 5 is one of the most important UK
Defence communications infrastructure programmes, providing the
operationally-critical linkages between the battle space and fixed
infrastructure. Since most of the Defence communication systems
will interface to SKYNET 5, the MOD needed to be certain that the
system could play its important role in defining and enabling
future system interoperability and performance.
How VEGA is helping
VEGA has provided extensive continual support
to the SKYNET 5 Project Office and the SAT IPT since the beginning
of the feasibility studies. The scope of the work has been
extremely broad-ranging, covering the SATCOM system itself and all
the systems with which it interfaces, both externally or as
subsumed systems.
VEGA has been involved in many of the key
procurement activities associated with this large programme,
including:
- Preparation of ITT/ITN documentation
- Preparation of bid evaluation plans
- Conducting bid evaluation
- Conducting contract negotiations with
industry
- Project monitoring and review
- Assessing project deliverables and preparing
approvals submissions
Value being delivered
VEGA has played the lead role in providing
communications consultancy to the programme and our tasks have
included leading the complete communications architecture work.
This involved defining and agreeing the interfaces to the numerous
other communications systems (Bowman, CORMORANT, FALCON, DFTS,
etc), which will be a critical element in the future performance of
the ‘system of systems’ and Network Enabled Capability.
