Defence Information Infrastructure

VEGA is supporting the UK MOD in the development of a single secure and coherent information infrastructure, the Defence Information Infrastructure (Future) (DII (F)).

Challenge

The challenge ahead of the UK MOD is to replace individual systems throughout the Defence area with a single, secure and coherent information infrastructure that will enable the sharing of information and collaborative working across the whole of Defence. The new infrastructure, known as Defence Information Infrastructure (Future) (DII (F)) is one of the largest information infrastructure programmes in Europe. DII (F) will provide the capability to exchange and share electronic information from foxhole to stores depot and from sensor to shooter. The scope of DII (F) embraces all fixed sites within the UK and abroad, Maritime Platforms and Deployed HQs, and will support a predicted 300,000 users in over 2,000 locations world-wide.

Via the ICS Catalogue, the MOD can request specific packages of work, thus ensuring true flexibility and best return on investment. The knowledge derived from providing many thousands of man-hours in day-to-day input across the full range of the DII programme enables VEGA to provide for a range of MOD customers and estates moving onto the infrastructure.
