Transparency

The Coalition’s vision of 'Big Society' calls for Transparency between government and the citizen. The creation of the Public Sector Transparency Board, by the Cabinet Office, is designed to help embed this 'transparency agenda' across all areas of government, and establish a legal right to data. By delivering these objectives, the government hopes to "strengthen people's trust in government and encourage greater public participation in decision-making." This has begun with Central Government publishing its business plans, progress reports, and detailed information on key people on a regular basis.

As this agenda spreads out into local government and Non-Departmental Government Bodies (NDGBs), there are clearly growing information assurance implications for many organisations not used to such rigour as the HMG security policy framework, who are now required to publicise appropriate information whilst retaining control of sensitive data.
