Digital Britain
The proliferation of digital tools enabling people to live more
of their lives online, means both the public and private sectors
are facing new challenges regarding cyber security, secure
systems, information assurance and information sharing.
As such, the first UK Cyber Security
Strategy was published in June 2009 in which the cyber security
challenges were articulated, along with the need to address
them "swiftly and effectively". It also placed a strong emphasis on
enabling citizens, business and government to enjoy "the full
benefits of a safe, secure and resilient cyber space".
The UK Cyber
Security Strategy, and the associated cross-Government
programme of work, is being driven by the newly-created Office
of Cyber Security and Information Assurance, which will benefit
from £650m worth of funding to lead the UK in its resilience
against cyber attacks, and provide secure intelligence sharing
systems about threats and attacks.
