GCSX Connectivity

What is GCSX?

GCSX is the Government Connect Secure Extranet, which enables secure interactions between connected English and Welsh Local Authorities and other public sector organisations. GCSX is connected to the Government Secure Intranet (GSI) which provides secure interactions between Local Authorities, central government departments, and national organisations. GCSX is not Internet-based, but is hosted on a secure wide area network.

 

Why should you use GCSX?

Both GCSX and GSI are key enablers of the UK’s Transformational Government agenda and National Security Strategy. Sharing information securely, across all forms of government, supports the vision of joined-up government services, enhances co-ordination of the UK’s civil contingency planning, and improves overall cost effectiveness. Gaining compliance with the Code of Connection (CoCo) - which gives organisations access to secure networks such as GSI and GCSX - also reduces dependence on laptops and external drives, as well as reliance on suppliers who physically transfer sensitive data.

 

What considerations are there in connecting to GCSX?

To connect to GCSX, either directly or through an aggregated gateway, all Local Authorities must achieve CoCo compliance, which includes providing a statement against numerous security control measures.
